Y’hello! I’ve decided (really for my own encouragement) to blog here every week my weight and some marker timings to compare my progress to Ironman Austria 2010. By comparison, my personal best (circa June 2007) for the Aldbury-Pitstone run is 62 minutes. 8 weeks ago I wasn’t able to beat 90 minutes.

For those who blog, here’s the minimum a blog should do in August 2010:

  • For visitors and administrators, be clean, simple and be open to evolve.
  • Should look good on Google Chrome, Firefox, IE and Safari.
  • Should be your own domain name, not via a third party and without advertisments
  • Support blog posts by email only, as well as via the web and via smartphone (android and iphone as minimum)
  • Offer simple embedding options for sound, video, links and images
  • Provide an RSS or similar feed for those who wish to subscribe, and it should be easy to locate this feed
  • Provide sidebar with open source plugins (twitter feed, flickr photostream, related streams, last fm, etc)
  • Mesh blog with twitter with flickr with youtube so when you post on one, it’s fed to all other mediums. e.g. When I upload to flickr from my iphone, it tweets the image via twitter and posts the image on my blog)
  • For Admins – be concise and encourage responses. Posts should go beyond 160 characters but be less than 1000 so as to not put off the poster from taking the time to post and the visitor the time to read/respond.
  • It shouldn’t cost a bean!
